Louisville Pet Lovers.com
Mission Statement - Our goals are to work together in a cooperative effort to achieve the following:
- Put public safety first, and create an environment where the streets are safe from dangerous dogs.
- Sponsor a legal, sane and workable legislation that will govern all pet owners and prevent subjective interpretation/implementation of the law.
- Eliminate high-cost requirements that make compliance a burden on lower-income households and thereby treat all pet-owners equally.
- Further insure public safety by making access to vaccination and rabies clinics easy and affordable for everyone.
- Ensure voluntary spay/neuter clinics are accessible and affordable for everyone’s pets.
- Provide community education and outreach through schools and communities to teach responsible pet ownership and pet safety classes.
- Require that all Animal Control Officers are properly trained/educated and meet state standards.
- Educate the public to eliminate animal abuse in all forms.
- Improve the procedures for licensing and the recordkeeping of all animals turned into the shelter.
- Sponsor basic training classes to assist pet owners in working with new and/or problem pets.
- Increase the percentage of pets licensed & properly vaccinated.
- Work with breed rescue groups to re-home adoptable purebred animals anywhere in the country.
- To continue to reduce the number of animals placed in the shelter and/or euthanized.
- Provide for a Board of Directors made up of animal professionals and lay persons to oversee LMAS and provide for a fair and informed review board to hear all cases referred for fines/seizures/penalties.
- Make Louisville a city where people want to visit and relocate to with their pets, and continue to build its reputation as a safe and welcoming site for animal shows/exhibits/conventions.
- Work with other communities to make the Louisville model the standard for enlightened animal care around the country.
We believe that Louisville has the resources to make these things happen now. We believe that the vast majority of pet owners are responsible, and want the best for their pets. We believe this community can work together to resolve the issues of unwanted animals and dangerous dogs in a positive and enlightened way. The resources are here: let us use them for the greatest good.
